제12회 아마도전시기획상《포인트 니모》

《포인트 니모》는 태평양 한가운데 위치한 해양 도달 불능점, ‘포인트 니모’를 단순한 지리적 좌표가 아닌 자본의 좌표를 밝혀내는 출발점으로 삼는다. ‘우주선 묘지’로도 불리는 이곳은 인간이 바다와 맺어온 비대칭적 관계를 보여주는 상징으로, 기술과 자본의 이면에 감춰진 현실을 드러낸다. 바다는 보이지 않는 것들이 쌓이고 사라지는 장소이자, 무한한 자원으로 여겨지며 끊임없이 소모되어 왔다. 인간이 구축한 관계 속에서 바다는 중심부의 이익을 위해 끝없는 생태적 비용을 감당해 왔으며, 전시는 이러한 현재의 생활 양식 아래 배제된 존재와 영역을 가시화하고자 한다. 대양의 유동적이고 경계 없는 흐름을 상상하며, 전시는 보이지 않게 된 것들을 다시 바라보는 방식을 모색한다. 아마도예술공간의 지상층과 지하층을 해수면 위와 아래로 설정해 가시성과 비가시성이 교차하는 감각을 탐색하며, 7인의 작가가 펼치는 이야기들을 통해 세계를 축소하거나 확대하고, 현재를 작동시키는 질서와 균형에 관해 질문한다. 

The exhibition Point Nemo takes its homonymous location, also known as the Oceanic Pole of Inaccessibility, located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, not just of its geo-coordinates but as a starting point to illuminate the coordinates of capital. Known as the “spacecraft cemetery,” this remote site symbolizes the asymmetric relationship between humans and the sea, exposing the realities hidden beneath technological and capitalist myths. Regarded as an infinite resource where the invisible accumulate and vanish, the ocean is endlessly depleted under humans. In this relationship constructed by humans, the sea has been forced to bear endless ecological costs for the center’s profit, and the exhibition attempts to visualize the beings and territories excluded under the current lifestyles. Imagining the fluid, borderless flow of the ocean, Point Nemo seeks to review those that have become invisible. Taking each ground floor and basement of the Amado Art Space as above and below sea level, the sense of the visible and invisible intersecting is explored. Through the narratives of seven participating artists, the world is compressed and expanded, questioning the order and balance that operate the present.
